  25. While some topics of the list sound important (like tables...;), I
  26. still think that FW is far from being professional... sorry. :-(
  27. While I'm hardly trying to write my dissertation with FW4, I had to
  28. find out that it is nearly unusable for larger texts.

  30. Here are the most important points of what I'm missing:

  32. 1)  It should be possible to link GFX-Objects (such as Pictures, Boxes, 
  33.     TextObjs,...) to paragraphs, so they will move up/down when
  34.     inserting text before them. [It is really a pain to move all the GFX
  35.     in a 50+ page document by hand]
  36.  
  37. 2)  The layout-options for Table of Contents, Bibliography etc. don't meet
  38.     the requirements of scientific notations. 
  39.     (Imagine a BIB looking like:
  40.  
  41.     [Author1 94]    Author: Title, .... 
  42.                     ... following lines with hanging indent.
  43.     [Author2 89]    ...)

  45.     (...or a TOC looking like:

  55. 3)  There's still no automatic section numbering with customizable
  56.     notation (e.g. "1.1.1" or "A.1.2"). Should be possible to set 
  57.     numbering styles for sections independently. Numbers of sections/
  58.     subsections should be changed automatically when new ones are
  59.     inserted/deleted/moved.
  60.  
  61. 4)  Footnotes are essential (but still missing).
  62.  
  63. 5)  Should be selectable whether Endnotes appear at the end of
  64.     sections or at the end of the doc.
  65.  
  66. 6)  Why is printing of odd/even pages impossible when printing
  67.     ALL sections (in FW 4.01 german, it's only selectable when printing
  68.     single sections)??? (BUG?)
  69.  
  70. 7)  The postscript-interpreter for EPS-GFX doesn't use contained
  71.     preview-image-info (bitmaps). Rendering takes too long even on a
  72.     040, esp. since it is sometimes rendered unnecessarily (e.g. when
  73.     simply moving an EPS-GFX).
  74.  
  75. 8)  Limitation of TextObjs to 37 chars is too short.
  76.  
  77. 9)  Hyphenation: At least the german hyphenation-module often can't
  78.     hyphenate longer words (e.g. "Aufgabenangemessenheit"). This
  79.     would not matter if it would be possible to hyphenate manually.
  80.     So one has to write "Aufgaben- <CR>angemessenheit", but if you
  81.     insert/delete any text before that, the result is two separate
  82.     words which won't be joined automatically.

  84. I hardly doubt that FW5 will be worth the update fee (for me, of
  85. course). While I still think that FW is still the best available 
  86. Wordprocessor for the Ami (the best of two... ;), it is not worth
  87. the fantasy price of ~250,- DM (that's what I paid for FW4).
  88. I really hoped that SoftWood would finally wake up and make much 
  89. more major improvements to FW5 (the improvements from FW1 to FW4
  90. are a joke: three version numbers for minor changes, IMO). Much 
  91. of the energy and money at Softwood seem to have flown to the 
  92. Wind*ws-Port of FW. I really did not want *my* money to go that
  93. way when I decided to *buy* your software: I wanted to support
  94. one of the remaining sw-companies on the amiga and contribute 
  95. to the creation of professional ami-soft.

  97. Even on the PC-Platform I would get a more functional PRG for my 
  98. money, e.g St*rWr*ter for OS*2.
  99. (Unfortunately, I don't want a PeeCee... by now ;).
